Two people say a word at random and then have to guess and agree on another word that connects the previous two. This is “Say the same thing”, the game that the popular musical group OK Go created in 2013 and has now relaunched to once again treat its long-time fans with an improved version and the new ones who have won since then with a fun pastime.
The application, available now for iOS and Android systems and in a web version, is based on a mix of spontaneous telepathy and knowledge between players, and encourages creativity, empathy and the unique emotion of connecting with another person. It is inspired by one of the forms of entertainment used by the band during their tours, and was developed in its digital version by Damian Kulash and Andy Ross, the latter being the one who programmed the application.

“‘Say The Same Thing’ is a brand new game, hand-programmed by Andy, beta-tested by the band and ready for you and your friends to use as an addictive tool for connecting minds in the 21st century.“, they commented from OK Go thirteen years ago, when they launched the game. They presented it with a fun video in which the members of the group played in extravagant situations, in the purest characteristic style of OK Go.
That same video has been reused to publicize the relaunch, which now includes new game modes, both individual and collective. “We play this game together on tour all the time, so we made it into an app“, the group commented through their social networks. “When we launched the app in 2013, Apple promoted it as an “Editor’s Choice,” which literally crashed our servers and left us with a huge bill. We had to retire the game, but now… it’s back! And we’ve added group games and a daily challenge“.
The new version incorporates some functions that draw on the popularity obtained by word games, such as Wordle. “Say the same thing” now includes a daily challenge that allows users to try their hand at an AI-generated word combination and compare their answer to others, as well as a leaderboard to track performance. In addition, to turn the game into a collective experience, it has a mode for more than two players. In this case, the first two to say the same word win.
When the game was launched thirteen years ago as a differential marketing exercise, it achieved more than a million downloads in one week in its iPhone version, and among other things, it was a finalist for Apple’s Game of the Year in three countries and coincidentally it was the 50 billionth download from the App Store, as the company reported at the time.
The group assures that the relaunch of the game is a response to the requests that OK Go fans have made over the years requesting its return, as reported by the music portal Antimusic. They also point out that the hobby proposes something different in a context in which technology focuses on simulating or replacing humans; instead, look for human connection and fun.
“Say the same thing” expands the group’s trajectory in innovation, globally recognized for its visual and narrative experimentation both in its music and in its music videos. Throughout their last years they have created extravagant pieces using all kinds of techniques and materials, from printers and treadmills, to drum cars, to real-time motion capture technology.
For the video clip of the song “Love”, created together with the agency SpecialGuestX, they explored the connections between art and technology through 29 robotic arms and 60 mirrors synchronized with music and movements. They also developed a unique robotic programming system to create a kaleidoscopic spectacle that was recorded in one sequence shot.
The video has been recognized in 2026 with two great awards at the Clio Music Awards, in the Design Craft and Music Film & Video categories; and also received a nomination for this year’s Grammy Awards in the Best Video Clip section. It also won a Silver Lion in Entertainment for Music at Cannes Lions 2025.
