This December 14, 2025an armed attack of extreme violence hit the famous beach of Bondi Beach in Sydney in Australia. During a public celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkahtwo armed men opened fire on the crowd. One killing act at least 15 people and hurting more than 40 more. Australian authorities described the attack asterrorist act. This one would have been “ motivated by the ideology of the Islamic State” according to the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The attackers were identified as a 50-year-old father, shot dead during the attack, and his 24-year-old son, who emerged from a coma on Tuesday evening.

Ahmed al Ahmed is a 43 year old man. He is originally from Syria and is installed at Sydneyin Australia, for many years. He is owner of a small fruit business in the Sutherland Shire region. Ahmeh al Ahmed is father of two childrenhe had gone to Bondi Beach that day to have coffee with a relative when he heard the first shots.

Born in the village of al-Nayrabin Idlib province, Ahmed studied at the University of Aleppo. He finally immigrated to Australia in the mid-2000s. He is now Australian citizenwell integrated into the local community. His family describes him as calm, hardworking and deeply attached to those close to him. “ My son is a hero. In Syria he served in the police and he always wanted to protect people“, said his father. His mother adds: “ When I learned what he had done, I was very proud of him.“.
His heroic gesture
As gunfire raged on the beach, Ahmed al Ahmed courageously rushed towards one of the two attackers. Videos show man running toward shooter, overpowering him Then snatch his rifle. The attacker is then no longer able to cause more victims. He then placed the weapon on the ground. Thanks to his gesture, Ahmed Al Ahmed opened a vital window for emergency services and law enforcementwho were able to intervene.
In this burst of heroism, the Australian was shot several times but that didn’t stop him. In particular, he was injured shoulder and handwhen another attacker shot in his direction. Despite his serious injuries, Ahmed survived the attack and was immediately taken to Sydney Hospital. He was then treated and operated on.
National recognition for his courage
The reactions to Ahmed al Ahmed’s act were massive. In Australia, the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese greeted him as an example of courage and humanity in the face of senseless violence. He even came to visit her in her hospital bed.
