Thousands of people around the world come to ChatGPT every day to ask questions related to health and well-being, making it one of the most popular topics on the tool. That is why OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Salud, which it presents as an experience designed to securely integrate your medical information with the intelligence of the chatbot.
As the company explains in a statement, this version of ChatGPT will allow users to connect their medical history and health and wellness applications, such as Apple Health, Function, MyFitnessPal or Peloton, with the platform. In this way, the conversations held with the chatbot will be based on your personal health information and will result, as OpenAI points out, in more relevant and useful responses.
Specifically, according to the company, ChatGPT will be able to help users interpret recent test results, prepare for future medical appointments, receive recommendations on diet or exercise, interpret data from wellness devices and applications, or understand the advantages and disadvantages of different insurance options based on healthcare habits.
The experience is similar to that received from the common version of the chatbot. In this regard, users can also upload photos and files and also use features such as search, advanced research, voice mode and dictation. But the answers will be based on the health information provided. For example, you may ask, “How has my cholesterol changed?” or “Can you summarize my latest blood tests before my appointment?”
You can also add custom instructions so ChatGPT knows what to focus on, skip sensitive topics, or adjust the way it organizes responses.
OpenAI points out that this version of the tool has been developed together with medical professionals globally, and remembers that it has no intention of replacing them. “ChatGPT Health was designed to support, not replace, healthcare. It is not used for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it helps resolve everyday questions and identify patterns over time—not just during times of illness—so you have more clarity and confidence in important medical conversations.”, he explains in a statement.
Specifically, ChatGPT Health is the result of more than two years of work with more than 260 health professionals in 60 countries and dozens of different specialties. According to OpenAI, their contributions have allowed us to define both what ChatGPT Salud can do and how it responds, that is, how urgently to recommend follow-up with a health professional or how to communicate without oversimplifying.
The company claims that ChatGPT Health combines ChatGPT’s robust privacy, security and data management controls with additional protections designed specifically for health. This includes encryption and isolation that keep conversations private and compartmentalized, and these will not be used to train the company’s core models.
At the moment, ChatGPT Health is available to a small group of users, whose feedback will help improve the experience. Without specifying a date, the company has announced that the tool will be available to all users on the web and on iOS systems in the coming weeks.
