Since yesterday, Thursday, November 5, the Spanish television panorama has become broader and more diverse. La Séptima, the new national free-to-air channel, started its broadcasts with a proposal focused on live information and its premiere has exceeded expectations in terms of audience, both its own and the sector.
José Miguel Contreras, CEO of La Séptima, expected that the channel would begin its journey by registering figures greater than 1% of the screen share, as reported The Economist; but the data obtained has greatly exceeded those forecasts. According to a report prepared by Barlovento with data from Fifty5Blue -formerly Kantar Media-, it achieved a 2.8% screen share.
The figure positioned it as the eighth most watched channel of the day, just two tenths behind La2, which registered a 3% share. La Séptima managed to surpass thematic networks already consolidated on the grid, such as Nova (2.3%), FDF (1.9%), Energy (1.8%), Neox (1.6%) or Trece (1.3%), most of them with programming focused on fiction and reruns.
Its broadcasts reached 4,990,000 unique viewers, which means that 10.5% of the population connected at some point during the day with this new television, which achieved 142,000 viewers on average.
Regarding the audience profile, men, with a 3.3% share, were the ones who tuned in the most to La Séptima on its first day, and the average age was 57 years old. However, its best shares have been among young generations: a 3.4% share among people between 13 and 24 years old; 3.3% between 25 and 44 years old and another 3.3% between 65 and 74 years old.
By region, the Valencian Community was the territory with the highest audience, with 4.3%, followed by Catalonia and Madrid, both with 3.7%. And by bands, the best performance of La Séptima has occurred in the afternoon and evening hours, both with a 3.1% screen share. The afternoon achieved 2.9%.
According to the Barlovento report, it was the interview by Javier Ruiz, Editorial Director of the chain, with the Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business, Carlos Body, in the space “La Última Hora”. The program reached an average audience of 473,000 viewers and a 3.7% screen share.
In a statement, La Séptima has shared other data, among them, that during “La Séptima en direct”, the period between 12:00 and 1:00 in the morning, reached 3.1% of the share. More specifically, it ensures that it achieved a 4% share in its commercial target, which are individuals aged 16 to 64 residing in municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
On the other hand, he noted that his live broadcast on YouTube exceeded 222,000 views during the day. The channel, says the network, already has 17,000 subscribers; All of this is a reflection, as they consider, of the interest aroused by their content and their ability to connect with the audience.
In the statement, La Séptima assessed the first results with satisfaction, but also with caution. “It has been a day of great emotion and enormous satisfaction for the work of the entire team. The first results are very positive and encourage us to continue building this project, aware that we have just begun”said Rafael Martínez de Vega, Business Director of La Séptima. “I especially want to thank the trust of the brands and agencies that have decided to join us from day one. Betting on a television that has just been born has enormous value and we hope that there will be many more who want to be part of what we are building.”.
The network assures that, once the premiere is completed, it faces the challenge of consolidating its programming, building a loyal audience and finding its own space in the Spanish audiovisual panorama.
