Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon and one of the richest people in the world, returns to the front line of business activity after resigning from his position as CEO of the company in July 2021. His return will come with Project Prometheus, a start-up focused on artificial intelligence applied to the engineering and manufacturing of computers, cars and spaceships.

The businessman will serve as Co-Executive Director of the project, which he is also helping to finance, according to reports The New York Times. Project Prometheus would already have funding of 6.2 billion dollars, part of it contributed by Bezos himself; and would be one of the best-funded early-stage startups in the world.
His involvement in the company represents the assumption of an operational role by Jeff Bezos since his departure from Amazon. Since then and until now he has been involved in Blue Origin, founded in 2000 and focused on aerospace transportation, but the position he holds there is that of Founder.
The businessman has expressed his interest in the development of artificial intelligence, and now it is materializing in a project that would cross that technology with Bezos’ interest in leading commercial trips to space. Few details are known about Project Prometheus, except that the focus of its activity would be the application of AI to sectors such as computing, the aerospace industry or the automotive industry.
According to the aforementioned media, the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Project Prometheus is Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who worked at Google X, Google’s research center. His career also includes the launch of Verily, a research laboratory dedicated to life sciences; or Foresite Labs, an incubator for projects related to artificial intelligence and data science.
As pointed out The New York Times, Project Prometheus would already have a team of almost 100 employees, including researchers from leading artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI, DeepMind and Meta.
The company’s activity will focus on the development of technology to accelerate scientific research through the simulation of the physical world to train artificial intelligence models.
