From graffiti in abandoned factories in Cantabria, to being considered the most international Spanish urban artist, with more than 300 projects carried out in more than 100 cities and presence in more than 50 countries. Okuda San Miguel, known for its geometric and colorful universe, celebrates 30 years of experience focused on the transformative power of color.
Coinciding with International Color Day, which takes place every March 21, the artist began a series of activations and special projects, with which he will commemorate three decades of work and construction of his own artistic language that, among other things, has resulted in a new rainbow.
The activation program will last a year and a half and will reach different places around the world.
One of the levers to communicate the initiative is a video that brings together the works made by Okuda San Miguel from the 90s to the present: from graffiti and sculptures, to exhibitions in museums and galleries or the complete transformation of buildings. “30 years building creativity, transformation, community, optimism, connection, diversity, hope, dialogue, inspiration, inclusion and freedom“, commented the artist when sharing the piece on his social networks. “30 years building a new rainbow”.
Okuda San Miguel assures that his work has fragmented reality through color and geometry to reveal something deeper, a universal language that speaks of inclusion, freedom, optimism and transformation. He explains that his art has transformed neighborhoods, communities and landscapes around the world with color as a tool of change. Now continue that path exploring new universes through innovation and technology.
This vision is what he shared with the public at an open day at his Factory Of Dreams studio, in the Madrid neighborhood of Usera. Neighbors and art fans were able to see the works of Okuda San Miguel, as well as enjoy live music and artisanal ice cream from the Dai Gelato brand, according to the artist in a statement.
Content creators linked to the leisure offer in Madrid or Telecinco news were present at the meeting.
Over the next few months, other actions will be carried out to commemorate the artist’s career. Among them, a traveling international exhibition that will tour different countries with works from their different artistic stages; or the premiere of a documentary about the artist’s philosophy and his experimental and sensory exploration of color.
He will also launch “Inhabiting Art,” a project that will unite the large-format sculptures of Okuda San Miguel with architecture, resulting in the possibility of living inside a work of art. In addition, the artist will also be in charge of expressing his vision of color in the Chinatown Arch that is being built in the Usera neighborhood, in Madrid.
In addition, the colorful universe of Okuda San Miguel will once again be present at the Elrow electronic music party, both in international events and in its Ibizan season. In the Neo Kaos Garden space, the artist has created his particular version of “The Garden of Delights”; of Hieronymus Hieronymus. This extends a collaboration between the artist and the festival that has been going on for more than seven years and has materialized in different initiatives.
The 30th anniversary celebration also raises a look toward the future with new projects, collaborations and lines of research, as well as the impact of Okuda San Miguel’s vision beyond his work. In this sense, the course “Okuda San Miguel, color as a tool of change”, taught by the Complutense University of Madrid, will return with a third edition in which the program will address the combination of artistic creation with cultural management, technology, design and communication.
For its part, the Coloring The World foundation, created by the artist and his representation agency Ink and Movement, will continue its work of education in colors and support for emerging artists through different scholarships.
