adidas Originals always looks beyond sport to develop its products. For his latest project he has been inspired by the elegance and functional aesthetics of ballet and has combined it with the popular modernity of streetwear. In addition, he has collaborated with the Creative Director Taqwa Bint Ali, Known for her collaborations with Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier and Levi’s, among others.
The balletcore style proposes an elegant and delicate aesthetic inspired by dance
The new collection is based on the trend balletcore, which has been triumphing for months due to its aesthetics based on this type of dance. It is characterized, in the field of fashion, by garments that emulate bodies and tutus, leggings or ballet flats; textures such as chiffon and silk, and light and pastel colors, such as pink, beige or white.
The result of combining this style with Bint Ali’s creative vision are two sneaker models that lack a tongue, as if they were ballet pointe. The model Adistar Pose Features extended laces that can be tied around the leg; while the model Megaride Mary-Janehas a velcro closure.
The brand has presented the models with an inspiring campaign that reflects the desire, both of Adidas and the creative, to empower the new generation of women. Under the title “She is you – she is me”, The audiovisual piece mixes the aspirations of a girl to become a dancer, with the pride of a young woman who has achieved it. It has been directed by Inès Manai and with 75 Production as producer
The campaign also has a series of photographs, made in Tunisia, Tokyo and Paris by the same creative team. These show women from the aforementioned countries wearing the sneakers, and conveying the concept behind the models: combination of elegance, functionality and modern style.
The collection will be available to purchase starting January 22 on adidas.com, the Confirmed app and select retailers.
