Folding mobile phones drive a new generation of accessories between technology and fashion

Folding phones are opening new ground for accessories. The transformation of a device that for years has kept its rectangular shape practically intact does not only affect screens, interfaces or usage habits. Its new proportions are also beginning to generate products specifically conceived around them.

Thus, Samsung and the fashion brand Dominnico have presented three accessories inspired by the new Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 as part of the Spanish designer’s Spring 27 collection. Waist bag, bag and belt transfer the dimensions, formats and colors of the devices to pieces that function as a complement and, at the same time, as an aesthetic extension of the phone.

The collaboration comes just a few weeks after Apple presented the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, also accompanied by a new range of accessories designed specifically for the possibilities that the format introduces. Among them stands out a Folio case with integrated support that costs 149 euros and allows you to place the device at different angles to consume content or make video calls.

Samsung and Dominnico have started precisely from the silhouette of each device to develop what is now their second collaboration. The project is part of “Unfold Your K-Side”, a concept that connects Samsung’s Korean origin with the designer’s creative universe, which has also had a pop-up in Seoul.

The Galaxy Z Fold8, with a format that Samsung compares to that of a passport, has inspired a compact fanny pack made of satin pistachio. The piece reproduces that proportion through a structure with different compartments, metallic details and a charm.

For the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Dominnico has opted for a mini shoulder bag in lavender satin and with a chain. In this case, the proposal plays precisely with the contrast between the dimensions of the device and the trend of reduced accessories.

The Galaxy Z Flip8, the most compact of the three, is integrated into a powder pink belt that incorporates a small pocket designed to carry the device. The piece thus transforms a functional characteristic of the foldable – its ability to significantly reduce its size when closed – into part of the styling.

Beyond housing the devices, the three products also transfer their color range to the Dominnico universe. Pistachio, lavender and pink function as a visual link between technology and fashion and allow the phone to stop being an independent element within the set.

The proposal continues the collaboration that Samsung and Dominnico began in March 2026 with a bag inspired by the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Galaxy Buds4 Pro. The alliance was later expanded with a seven-piece capsule collection presented at 080 Barcelona Fashion, in which elements typical of the devices, such as camera modules, pockets or charms, were transferred to the design of clothing and accessories.

With the Galaxy Z, the collaboration now goes one step further by directly using the new shapes and dimensions of folding mobile phones as a starting point to design the accessories.

Samsung is not the only company exploring this relationship. Honor took it to the extreme with the V Purse, a foldable designed to be carried on the shoulder using interchangeable straps and chains as if it were a bag, and has subsequently collaborated with Jimmy Choo on an edition of the Magic V Flip 2.

Motorola has also brought its Razr closer to the realm of luxury accessories and this September it has presented a new edition developed with Swarovski, decorated with 35 crystals and another larger one integrated into the hinge. The movements indicate that the foldable is beginning to occupy a space that the conventional smartphone had barely explored: the device itself and what surrounds it as a visible part of the styling.

Although it is still early to talk about an independent business category around folding accessories, the movements of Samsung and Apple allow us to see how the change in smartphone format is also expanding the design possibilities of the products that surround it.

For years, a good part of the mobile accessories market has evolved around a fairly stable physical structure: cases, wallets, supports, straps or charging systems adapted materials and finishes, but were based on devices with similar proportions.

Folding introduces other variables. It can be used open or closed, operate on its own, adopt different angles and significantly reduce its surface area when transported. This modifies both the functional needs of a cover and the possibilities of integrating it into a garment or accessory.
