Atresmedia adds programs like “El Hormiguero” or “Pasapalabra” to the Netflix catalog

It is increasingly common that after being broadcast on traditional television, programs, contests and series find a place on streaming platforms. And in some cases, beyond the ecosystems of the chains in which they are broadcast. This is precisely what the agreement established by Atresmedia and Netflix is based on so that some of the group’s most successful formats can be seen on the platform.

Since Saturday, September 5, Netflix is adding notable content from the Atresmedia channels’ lineup to its catalog after it is broadcast on them. “Investigation Team”, the journalistic program that is part of LaSexta’s regular programming, has been the first title to join the streaming platform. Later, the entertainment programs “El Hormiguero” and “El Intermedio”, the daily series “Sueños de Libertad” and the contest “Pasapalabra” will follow, thereby adding a new window to its on-demand tour.

The series “Veneno”, by the Javis, will also be added to the Netflix catalog

In addition, in the future, the series “Veneno”, released in 2020, will also be added to Netflix. The series, inspired by the life and memories of Cristina Ortiz, “La Veneno”, became a social phenomenon and one of the most recognized productions by critics and the public. It was created by the creative duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, and in this sense, both Netflix and Atresmedia could capitalize on the more than presumed success of their new film, “La Bola Negra”, already preselected by the Film Academy to represent Spain at the Oscars.

The agreement, as reported by Atresmedia in a statement, represents an evolution in the collaborative relationship between both companies around internationally successful productions, such as “La casa de papel”, “La Cocinara de Castamar” or “Toy boy”, fiction titles to which Netflix has contributed either by assuming their production or helping them reach new audiences beyond Spain.

Netflix, the world leader in streaming, incorporates the most successful programs in the Spanish market into its catalog. For its part, Atresmedia continues to promote the dissemination of its content and expand the reach of its main brands“, they explain from Atresmedia. “The incorporation of five of its most notable titles into Netflix will allow their stories, protagonists and formats to reach more viewers, diversifying audiences in an operation that provides greater visibility and reach to these national productions.“.

Television and streaming continue to dilute borders

The movement strengthens the synergies between traditional television and streaming. This is not the first agreement of its kind, since since May, Netflix has also had “La revuelta” on its menu, the program presented by David Broncano on TVE’s La1. For its part, the culinary reality show “MasterChef”, also on TVE, can be seen on Disney+.

Until now, fiction had been the protagonist of this type of agreement. For example, already in 2019 Mediaset España and Amazon Prime Video established an agreement for “El Pueblo” to premiere exclusively and first on the streaming platform before its free-to-air broadcast on the group’s channels.
And over the last few years the viewer has become accustomed to watching linear television series on the streaming services to which they subscribe.

The platforms’ commitment to programs more associated with live or daily broadcast is a reflection of how the borders between television and streaming have been diluted. It is something that has also materialized in the platforms’ commitment to including advertising as a way to find new avenues of income and keep their operations profitable.

It is a transformation of the audiovisual panorama that, precisely, Atresmedia already addressed in 2022 with a high-profile advertising banner in which it welcomed streaming players to TV, on the occasion of World Television Day. Four years later, the message is still relevant and applicable.
