Jeff and Molly didn’t buy a Porsche, they built it together from the ground up. And they drove it for more than 600 kilometers on a journey that ended at the altar. His peculiar story of love and passion for cars has been captured in “The long way to ‘I do’”, an animated short film that moves away from the usual advertising codes of the sector to share a real, exciting and inspiring experience.

Porsche has turned the experiences of Jeff and Molly Stockwell into an artistic audiovisual piece that conveys the values of the brand and the role that it and its cars play in the lives of drivers. Thus, he has condensed into a beautiful story the two years of restoration work on the 1966 Porsche 912, as well as his road trip and his wedding as the last stop.

Instead of telling the story through conventional images, Porsche has collaborated with artist and visual animator Em Cooper to capture the couple’s memories in a hand-painted film. The piece shows the protagonists working with the parts on the vehicle, the journey along the Pacific Coast Highway, which connects Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the key moments of their ceremony.

The brand has also shared the creative process. According to the artist herself, the production of the short film has required 253 different shots that have been painted in oil, handmade transitions and animation to create dynamism. The result is a visual proposal in constant evolution that gives the video the appearance of a painting in motion, rather than that of an advertising advertisement.
The agency LolaTBWA and the production company Tonic DNA have also collaborated on the project.

Although the brand’s product is the central focus of the story, “The Long Way To ‘I Do’” does not focus so much on the power or performance of the vehicle; Instead, it focuses on the memories created around it, which builds an aspirational and emotional story. The fundamental idea that it conveys is that the best trips are defined by who accompanies us along the way and by everything necessary to get there, not just by the destination.

In addition, Porsche has also shared the reaction of the protagonists, Jeff and Molly, to viewing the piece, which reinforces the legitimacy and credibility of the brand’s story and message. In itself, the initiative represents a defense of human creative talent in the era of artificial intelligence, and of the authentic contribution of brands to people’s lives.
