After months threatening Antena 3’s audience leadership, TVE’s La1 surpassed its rival in October and placed itself at the head of the networks in television audience, according to Barlovento’s monthly report. He did so thanks, as usual, to sport and also to the interventions of the top officials of the political parties that aspire to form a government in the November 29 elections. Thus, football and current events have allowed the public channel to have its best October in the last 15 years.
The analysis, prepared with data from Fifty5Blue -formerly Kantar Media-, also points to a slight increase in media consumption. The traditional television consumption time per viewer (over the total number of those who watch television each day) stood at 279 minutes, this is 6 minutes more than in September and 5 minutes more than in October 2025.
On the other hand, the time of traditional television consumption per person (over the entire Spanish population: 47.5 million) was 159 minutes. The figure represents 8 minutes more than the previous month, and an increase of 2 minutes compared to the month of October last year.
Who watches television in Spain?
Taking into account the profile of the viewers, the data indicate that those who spent the most time watching television in October were women (169 minutes) and people over 74 years of age (343 minutes). By location, Asturias (196 minutes), Castilla y León (185 minutes) and Andalusia (179 minutes) were the regions that consumed the most television.
Television registered 43.5 million unique accumulated viewers
According to the report, the accumulated unique viewers reached 43.5 million, which means that 91.6% of the population of Spain does contact traditional television. On the other hand, 27 million Spaniards watched traditional television every day for at least one minute, that is, 56.9% of the population.
It should be noted that in October there were 3.9 million “telephobes”, which means that 8.4% of the population did not watch traditional television at any time. The figure reflects a significant decrease compared to the 4.2 million registered in September derived, perhaps, from a meteorological situation more favorable to leisure at home and interest in current information.
Streaming television consumption
Barlovento’s analysis points out that hybrid consumption time, that linked to “other audiovisual consumption” other than traditional television, such as streaming, video games or radio, stood at 56 minutes per person per day in October. This reflects an increase of 1 minute compared to September and an increase of 4 minutes compared to the same month in 2025.
This type of consumption represents 26% of total television use in Spain; and is distributed as follows: 50 minutes for internet or streaming, 4 minutes for “play” or recorded video; and 2 minutes for video games, radio and other actions.
This implies that the total time spent using the television (traditional television + other uses) was 216 minutes per person per day, that is, 10 minutes less than in September, but 6 minutes more than the same period last year.
In addition, the total time of television use per viewer per day has been 333 minutes. which represents an increase of 6 minutes compared to the previous month, and 9 minutes compared to October 2025.
On the other hand, hybrid television consumption has 35.3 million total unique viewers and 14.6 million daily unique viewers.
The exclusive audience for these “other uses”, that is, the number of people who use the television daily for an activity other than watching traditional linear television, has been 3,632,000 viewers.
